WHAT works?
Operation Eyesight is not an aid organization – our focus is on
sustainable development. In order to create and support lasting changes in the
developing world that will improve peoples' lives now and in the future, we
conduct our activities according to the core values below.
Commitment: to ensuring countries develop quality,
accessible eye care, from community level to comprehensive care, that is
sustainable without foreign support.
Quality and excellence: in
service delivery, outcomes, partnerships and collaborations, donor
relationships, leadership and staff. People in developing countries deserve the same
quality of treatment and care we expect ourselves.
Co-investment: in human and financial resources committed to development programs that
are designed to become sustainable. Creative, respectful partnerships
with in-country medical professionals, communities and government agencies are
the best way to foster lasting, effective development. We select partners who
share our concern for accessibility and quality of care, responsible financial
management and sound ethical conduct.
Sustainability: in resource development,
program delivery, local communities and individuals. Development projects must
help hospital and community partners build the capacity to serve their own
people in a sustainable manner – without long-term dependence on foreign
funding or expertise.
Transparency: in
regular disclosure of our strategies, financial position, successes and
challenges. See our Financial
Statements for more information.
Our track record is impressive. You can read more in this success story, which illustrates our approach to sustainability in India today, or see living examples of the people we work with.
