Gift Guide Options
Giving a gift means sharing something meaningful with the people that are special in our lives. Gifts from Operation Eyesight make it easy to do that because each is essentially two gifts in one. They send a beautiful message to a friend, family member or colleague. At the same time, your gifts help us work with local partners in India and Africa to transform the lives of children, families and communities in the developing world.

Simple items can build a world free of avoidable blindness
Around the world, millions of people go blind each year because they don’t have the basics we take for granted, like easy access to an eye exam, surgery or common medicines.
Did you know that impaired vision from uncorrected refractive error (which can be fixed with a pair of eyeglasses) can be almost as bad as being completely blind? If you can’t see clearly, you can’t read, write or perform the simplest tasks. The threat of visual impairment is a terrifying reality for millions. But we can do something about it, right now!
By selecting a gift from among these "Building Blocks," you're helping us work with local partners in Africa where sustainable development is a longer term investment due to isolated and disperse populations and more challening economics, as well as start up new projects in India. Your gift will subsidize surgeries that restore sight, or custom fit eyeglasses, until each partner program achieves sustainability. Ultimately, they will be able to fund these items themselves.

It changes everything!
Imagine not having enough water to clean your children’s faces and protect them from flies that carry disease. In water there is cleanliness, and in sanitation there is health. In fact, the struggle against avoidable blindness can’t be won without access to clean water, which is in scarce supply throughout sub-Saharan Africa. Operation Eyesight seeks to get at the root causes of blindness – to prevent eye problems from starting in the first place. Your gifts can help drill boreholes, complete water wells, or create water catchment systems. You will provide a community with this life-saving, sight-saving resource.
You don't have to be a doctor to give the gift of sight
Effective eye care and blindness prevention go further and deeper than the local eye clinic. Operation Eyesight knows that to free a community from the threat of blindness and low vision, our partners may need to go there themselves. Often, the communities where we work have large, condensed populations or are spread over great distances. Please help us get help to the people who need it most.
Training gives locals the means to take care of their own people
The old saying goes: Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day, but teach a man to fish and he will eat for a lifetime. Our partners in Africa and India are keen to be self-reliant, and they welcome our investment in training local people. Ongoing education gives someone the tools to help care for their entire community: knowledge to conduct basic eye exams and identify eye problems, or the skill to prescribe spectacles, provide antibiotics and make hospital and surgical referrals. Imagine how such a gift will change a person’s life – and the lives of those around them.
In addition to highly skilled ophthalmologists, we fund leading-edgetraining for primary eye care workers, ophthalmic nurses and vision technicians. These skilled health workers fill the gap when eye doctors are absent or unavailable, providing eye exams, basic treatment and hospital referrals. They’re at work where the people are − in schools, markets or churches − providing innovative community eye care that is desperately needed in many regions, especially sub-Saharan Africa.

Give doctors the tool and supplies they need to heal eyes
Operation Eyesight firmly believes that even the poorest people are entitled to the best medical care possible. We know from experience that world-class standards can be achieved in even the poorest communities, leading to best possible surgical and treatment results. To do this, we need your help.
Surgical and diagnostic machines are expensive to purchase and maintain and difficult to ship to remote areas. They also need to be replaced when they wear out. Supplies like artificial lenses, sterilized tools, bandages and medications are all basic but necessary supplies for successful surgeries. Help our partners’ medical teams continue to give their best without being hampered by the lack of necessary materials.
